Professional muralist, author and artist Colleen Schmid found out early in life what a profound difference can be made in the lives of our children by an early introduction to art and music.
She has dedicated herself to positively impacting the lives of as many children as possible by devoting herself to her mural creations and charitable contributions.
Colleen’s mural artistry has been commissioned by:
Churches Nurseries Elementary and high schools Day care centers Libraries Cafeterias As well as hundreds of families in Central Florida, And donated to local Children’s Centers, Homes and other charities.
In an effort to help other moms create murals for their children and to inspire their creativity, Colleen has authored manuals on how to paint murals, image-transferring techniques and a complete beginners guide to creating & painting floorcloths. She also has a video series on painting wall murals from scratch that is supplied with a mural kit she created.
Did you know....? Studies have shown that an early exposure to art and participation in music have a profound effect on a child’s intelligence, spatial reasoning IQ and self-esteem?
Further, a combination of tightly-controlled behavioral studies and groundbreaking neurological research shows participation in art & music also dramatically enhances children's abstract reasoning skills, the skills necessary for learning math and science.
The U.S. Department of Education says “It is also well known and widely recognized that the arts contribute significantly to children’s intellectual development.” U.S. Department of Education, 1997
Colleen has been painting large, custom wall murals (both residential and commercial) in Central Florida for the past nine years. It all began when she designed and hand-painted one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork — children’s table & chair sets shaped like animals. This was a big hit and right away her clients began requesting that their children’s rooms be painted with murals to complement the furniture, thus creating “themed” rooms.
Colleen has been commissioned by hundreds of families to paint murals in their homes and now with the new canvas line, families will be able to take their mural wherever they go on life’s journeys. She believes it is so very important to nurture our children’s imaginations and inspire their creativity. Art has a way of doing just that!
Painting these canvas murals has allowed this mother of a 4 year old daughter and a 15 month old son to have the best of both worlds. That is, to be a stay-at-home mom and continue as an artist by working from her home studio. “It has been wonderful to be with my children everyday. To hear them laugh, see them smile and to be there for all of their ‘firsts’ and still be able to continue doing something I love, being an artist and sharing my talents with other families” Colleen says.
“I live my life by following my heart. It has lead me to places that have been rewarding to me as a wife, a mother, daughter and friend, as well as a creative artist. I want to move the world a little, steer it more toward the heart and family. Knowing that families will be able to cherish and pass these murals down to future generations is a very warm and fulfilling feeling.”
Tip For Parents: Give your kids lots of crayons, markers and fingerpaints and help them to discover how the basic shapes can interact with each other to form new figures.
We’ve discovered a great product for toddlers who aren’t yet ready for messy markers or paints. It’s the “AquaDoodle Mat” by the Spinmaster Co. in Virginia. It colors a special mat with a refillable water pen. No mess! Their number is 866-675-4970. Their website is aquadoodletoys.com or check your local Toys-R-Us.
Thanks so much for visiting!
